Vacationland

Maine, that is.

Old Orchard Beach with it's cool tidal pools and patterns in the sand

Portland in the fog

Orr's Island

Lands End

Bailey's Island Bridge, the world's only granite cribstone bridge being repaired

Random vacation thoughts:
- One of these days I am going to learn to take pictures of water with the horizon actually horizontal.
- Boston drivers = crazy
- Connecticut waiters = rude
- Maine = beautiful, but rainy
- Me = Had fun and glad to be home :)

EW,

Thanks :) I have always wanted to see Mt. Rushmore in person (and the Grand Canyon...and lots of stuff out west). I'll keep an eye out for your pics.

Cool, never been to Maine, heard good stuff about it though.

Boston drivers--no kidding. Be glad you don't have to battle those morons every week.

And at least you weren't out hiking in the nearby mountains during all of that rain (like some of us were). Fun times, those. But I guess the rain kinda added a little bit of "effect" or whatever to your trip.

Thanks Ame :)

Jesse,

I do not envy you the Boston drivers! Hiking in the rain does not sound like fun :(

Maine is definately worth checking out, especially only being a few hours away.

Ooh, Old Orchard Beach.

That's been a Summer tradition for me since I was six years old (that's a little over four decades).

I Love that place!

Curiepoint,

It was my first time there, but I can see why you like it. Seems like a great place to take kids too.

So I take it then that you are near the New England area? I'm in New Hampshire, so the drive to OOB is not any kind of hardship.

OOB is expensive, noisy, and the very image of carnival hucksterism, at least along East Grand Ave; I absolutely love it. That shoreline is incredible, and the water is so clear and blue. My favorite time of day was after sundown, when I could go out onto the beach with my acoustic guitar and play all night if I wanted to. I wrote a lot of songs sitting there in the sand. I haven't found any place equal to that tranquility.

I started taking my sons there when they were little. The first thing that they would do is find a flock of seagulls strutting around the low tide line and run straight into the middle of them to watch them scatter. If you have energetic little ones, a day on that beach will guarantee a solid night of hard sleeping from them.

I haven't been back in a couple of years, so I am about due to return.

Curiepoint,

I live about 11 hours away from Old Orchard Beach. My friend who planned our vacation chose the location. We usually go to the Outer Banks in NC. The water is very pretty at OOB, but cold! It was a great beach to walk on because the sand is nice and firm.

Wow, eleven hours! That was quite a drive for you.

I'm not surprised about the water being cold. This summer has been a real bust so far with all the rain.

I'm hoping the trend breaks soon.

Curiepoint,

The guy who owned the B&B we stayed at in OOB said it had rained 19 out of 20-some days in June when we were there. I guess we were lucky to have 2 decent days!

Beautiful pictures. I have always wanted to visit Maine. I have only made it up to Cape Cod and Rhode Island. Once my life gets a little more straightened out in the professional spectrum, I am going to start working on my travelin list.

Thanks Emily :) New England is a beautiful place to visit, especially when the leaves are changing.
