Why my blog is pathetic

Dear blog readers,

Hello, it's me, Learner. I know I have not been around here much here lately. Life has become rather busy since the semester started and I have not had much extra free time to write here. I have been rather occupied with some increased teaching responsibilities (14 graduate credits, yikes!), professional writing projects, dissertating (yes, it is a verb, as in to work on a dissertation), going to help my dad care for my mom who is home after spending 3 months in a nursing home and daydreaming about a certain wonderful gentleman.

I have had ideas for posts such as:
  • a rant about going through the review and publication process for a journal article (which I am sure most of y'all would find mind numbingly boring)
  • a discussion of a recent conversation I had with co-workers where a family court judge was described as "biased toward fathers" because they tended toward 50/50 custody arrangements more often (er....isn't 50/50 kinda unbiased?)
  • recounting a conversation between several of my female students about why a male neighbor of one of them was a "loser" (made no sense to me)
  • describing a conversation from my single women's Bible study where a sermon one of the women heard was shared which the pastor specifically said was for "single men" though everyone was invited to "listen in". The subject of the sermon? Sexual purity. Yeah, no one but single men need to learn about sexual purity.
  • a list of verses from the Bible about how God wants us to live as men and women outside of marriage, children, and sexuality for Catwoman since she doesn't seem to know where any of them are.
  • a post about why some women don't seem to able to be happy for you when you meet a great guy (to quote one of my friend's after I said I had a wonderful time with the previously mentioned gentleman, "Gag")
Yet, none of these posts has come to fruition. At the moment I don't think any of them will. I also have a few more C.S. Lewis quotes I'd like to share, but that doesn't seem to be happening either.

So, if you'd like to read an interesting post, may I recommend this one over at Imonk about how to talk to Christians of other faith traditions or this one from Terry at Breathing Grace about the difference between falling in love and living in love, because you likely won't find one here! :)

Love,
Learner

I know its not a poll but the "recounting a conversation between several of my female students about why a male neighbor of one of them was a "loser" (made no sense to me)" sounds like it could be interesting.

Thanks for the comment Pheo. maybe it should be a poll! Which ever idea gets the most votes get written up as a post :)

That last one hits home for me, so please elaborate further.

"daydreaming about a certain wonderful gentleman"

:)

and he certainly is a gentleman worthy of delighting in spending time daydreaming about ;)

(i think we should grab a picnic blanket and some delicious food, take advantage of a softly cool, fall day, and lay down, watch the clouds float by, and enjoy daydreaming about our wonderful gentlemen ;)

Your mom was daydreaming about a man at the nursing home? ;)

Blogging is hard to get time to do, at times, and I also have not been blogging as much for various reasons, too. Still, as an avocation it's nice to have around.

Thank for filling us in on what you will not be posting. Also good luck with writting the Great American Novel... that you aren't writting. I have seen this type of post on other blogs and am always curious about the need to appologize to people you don't know, for failing to do something that you had no obligation to do, but were only doing for your own amusement. It is not as if you have given us any reason to expect a regular content update to fill our otherwise pathetic lives. I would rather you ignored the fact that you haven't posted in a while, and just write a short post on whatever interests you.

Hi Kimberly :)

I am not sure why some women are like that. Jealousy? It kind of doesn't make sense though because the friend who said this is married. I think sometimes maybe it is self centeredness because the woman is not happy in a relationship herself so she has a hard time being happy for you.

What do you think?

Sounds good Ame :)

Triton,

LOL :) See another reason why my blog is pathetic...poor grammar.

Very true Nova

Prof Hale,

Duly noted. Another reason my blog is pathetic ;) Not writing the great american novel though...nothing as exciting as that, just research stuff.

Learner, Kimberly ... it's funny what people will be jealous about. when i was a single mom with two elementary school age girls, one with special needs, and i got 36 hours alone every other weekend b/c their dad actually spent time with them, there were people who were jealous of me b/c i had some time alone. i was always so worn out that i slept almost the whole time they were gone.

***

another jealousy i've had to deal w/ is my youngest sister. she has always been jealous of me. caused a lot of friction. ugh. i cannot control another's jealousy of me, but i can control my jealousy of others ... so that's what i work on.

...i cannot control another's jealousy of me...

so true. If you had nothing and were content, people would be jealous of your humility.

As an aside, I know a lot about humility. It is my best feature and I ham quite proud of it.

Join the club Learner. Blogs just get that way it seems. I haven't posted anything of much substance on my blog for months now, just too much other stuff going on. But being busy isn't such a bad thing if it's due to worthy pursuits, which your efforts certainly seem to be.

In other news...you had to see this comment coming:

Chi 17
Pit 14

Even as a lifelong Bears fan I must admit that should have never happened. The Steelers are aware this preseason is over and they shouldn't let subpar opponents win, right?

Ame,

I guess some people will always want what they can't have.

Prof Hale,

:)

Jesse,

I hope your business is about some good things too Jesse.

Regarding the Steelers....I know bro, that one was painful. Jeff Reed is usually so reliable. My brother and I were talking about that game last night and he reminded me that after the Steelers last Superbowl win that Reed had an off year. I hope the 2 misses on Sunday are not shades of things to come.

Not much happening at my place, either. Although I'll blame it on moving.

"Sexual purity. Yeah, no one but single men need to learn about sexual purity."

Well, women don't have sex drives in the eyes of the church, dontcha know?

EW,

Ooooh, I see. Thanks for clearing that up! :) Wonder where that particular bit of wisdom came from. Perhaps the victorians? If so, where did they get that idea I wonder?

Professor Hale said...

Maybe there will be a sexual purity special just for single women next time. And then one for married people.

Nothing particularly wrong with a focused message.

Learner said...

PH,

I would agree that focused messages are fine as long as they are not always focused on one part of the audience and rarely at the other parts. Unfortunately in my experience it is the case that the purity messages aimed single women either don't exist (we are all naturally pure of thought and action) or are focused on resisting the advances of men (men are still the ones with the issues)
